I received wonderful positive input on my proposal for Believer’s 911 Prayers at the 2012 Oregon Christian Writers Conference. All the agents and the editor I talked with liked the idea of my proposal. Most thought I should change the name. They thought it too reminiscent of the twin towers disaster rather than the emergency phone number. Now I’m also working on a rewrite that reflects the insights I received.
Believer’s 911 Prayers
Ever been desperate for an answer from God? I have. Sometimes I wish there was a 911 option on my line to heaven. And I believe there is. That’s the reason I’m writing a devotion book called Believer’s 911 Prayers. There are dozens of people in the Bible who experienced desperate circumstances and cried out to Almighty God for his answers. Their stories give us keys for reaching God and finding His answers when He is our only option.
My new book is projected to contain 40 devotions with such names as “When Life Is As Bad As It Can Get, And It’s All Your Fault” (Jonah), “When There’s Not Enough Money To Pay The Bills” (Widow who came to Elisha), “When Your Past Catches Up With You” (Jacob before meeting Esau). It will be a wonderful resource to have in your own use, for libraries and as a gift to someone facing a crisis.
August 13-16 I’ll be at the Oregon Christian Writers Summer Conference, meeting editors and agents to stir up interest in this new project. My book isn’t completely written yet, but be sure to check back on this site for its progress.
Spanish and the five Quechua languages are the next to receive copies of Jesus Loves Us All, my delightful evangelism book for children. Funding is not yet complete–$7,000 has come in of the estimated $10,000 needed. However, translation will begin soon. We will use only native speakers for accuracy purposes.
Once printed, missionaries to Mexico will deliver copies to natives who travel deep into the country to villages where there is no witness for Christ. In Peru the New Testament was only recently published in the Quechua languages. Children are without significant materials that tell them the story of Jesus. Anyone wishing to contribute to this project is welcome to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I was recently interviewed by Carole Marie, who happens to be a great friend of mine, for her writers’ blog. Carole Marie and I met at a writer’s conference a number of years ago. Though we’re many years different in age–she once asked to call me grandma–we have gobs of fun together.
I love encouraging young writers and hope you’ll visit her site and see my interview at http://carolemarie.com.
I’m so excited to share that 10,000 copies of the Japanese edition of Jesus Loves Us All are now published and being distributed to Japanese children displaced by the tsunami–many of them orphaned of one or both parents. A couple of weeks ago I emailed a missionary friend in Japan to tell her about my books being available. She replied that she had already ordered 100 for the trips they are taking into the area where the tsunami hit. So the word is getting out.
I just received ten copies of the Japanese edition in the mail. What a joy to know that God can use my books in another country. Please pray with me that God direct these books to the children and families who need them.
God does answer prayer! My dream of printing 10,000 copies of Jesus Loves Us All for tsunami victims in Japan is almost a reality. The booklet is translated into Japanese and the $6100 plus dollars to print it has been raised. All that remains to be done are issues such as getting it completely print ready, getting the ISBN and getting the actual printing done. Pray with me that these things may be accomplished quickly, and that the booklets will be in the hands of tsunami survivors soon.
The situation of those in evacuation centers is really sad. My daughter-in-law, Christine, described it this way. “Can you imagine living on a mat surrounded by boxes of the only belongings you have—many of them donations—for two months or more with hundreds of others, small children, snorers, and whatever else?? Ugghh.”
No, I can’t imagine it. I pray that my books will bring hope in Christ to many.
The cute little girl reading my book is Grace, my granddaughter.
My church is helping me raise money for printing Jesus Loves Us All in Japanese and sending it to tsunami victims in Japan. I want to print 10,000. The publisher I am working with in Japan will ship them to churches in the tsunami area to be given out to needy families. These people have lost everything—their homes, possessions, jobs, and worst of all, they have lost hope. My book will give them hope. Books cost only about .62 each in lots of 10,000. We have enough money to print 5,000, but we need $2,000 more to print 10,000. If you would like to help, send me a message on my contact me page link.
While at a writer’s retreat in January, my friend Carole, of Carole Marie Photography took these pictures of me.
Hi just wanted to share.
My Jesus Loves Us All books arrived at the warehouse today after their long, long trip from India. I never realized how many boxes of 140 books it would be to make 3300 books—or how heavy each box would be. My body is telling me, even though I only did half the lifting.
Now comes the happy privilege of distributing them to those who have pre-ordered books. Best of all is the joy of giving them out to Christmas food baskets and some mission organizations. Please pray with me that I will make wise decisions about where to give them.
Praising God, Geneva
This holiday season, I received the journal entry below from my daughter, Crystal (Tali). I thought you’d be blessed by it too.
God bless you this season and through the coming year!
Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
May this coming year bring a greater awareness of His love for you and an expansion of His greatness shining through you. Below is something i wrote today in my journal I thought was worth sharing with friends. Our God is amazing and wild!
How out of the box.
You create little people – so much smaller than Your vastness, so foolish compared to Your infinite wisdom, always dirtying themselves and their world, making pain for themselves and others, yet quite proud of themselves in their fallacy.
Yet You loved those little people so much that You came up with a wild idea – take their form to create a connection with them. Take their dirtiness and pain on Yourself so they can be cleansed and healed.
Why would You want to limit Your vastness, Your wisdom, Your place of comfort and perfection and instead live in a world they have dirtied and filled with pain?
Your entrance to this adventure would mean a cutting off of awareness, and You knew Your exit would be unimaginably painful
Yet, what is a loving heart if it does not love? What is a gift to loved ones if it doesn’t cost us anything?
So You gave the most expensive gift possible to the ones You chose to love.
I would think angels might be easier to love. They treat You right — worshiping you, fulfilling your every request with joy. But we spit in Your face, ignore You, cheat on You, and deny we know You exist.
Honestly, You have bad taste in lovers!
But perhaps You see something in us that we ourselves don’t see.
Some beautiful deposit You put in us that we cover up with our silly efforts to prove our value.
Some neediness in us to be filled with Your love and strength, that we try to fill with other things.
But, with all our false pride and misguided pursuits, we weren’t ready to accept Your love.
It’s hard for our limited minds to perceive such an immense love that would step across the vast chasm between us and love us unconditionally, despite Your perfection and full knowledge of our lack.
So You have continued to pursue.
Like some crazy love-sick God, You chase after us, making a fool out of Yourself and proving Your love in so many extravagant ways til this day.
What a wild adventurer and lover You are!
Help us to open up and receive Your love! We want to go on wild adventures with you and love like you!
